A very warm welcome awaits you at Hillside, please take a few moments to take note of the following points which will enhance your enjoyment of our Championship Links and friendly Club.
Please ensure that the rest of your group have read through the visitor Guidance Notes from Hillside prior to your trip.
Handicaps
All players must possess a WHS handicap and be able to provide confirmation to the Professional or Secretary on request.
Tee of the Day
Visitors will play from either the blue or yellow tee blocks. Scorecards, course planners and daily pin sheets are available in the Professional shop.
On Arrival
Please report to the Professional’s shop (this is located at the front of the Clubhouse adjacent to the 1st tee). If you intend to warm up prior to play there are two options: Practice Nets or the Driving Range where complimentary balls are provided.
If you are arriving by car, please be mindful of our neighbours and be aware that the speed limit on Hastings Road in 20mph.
Club House
We have a well-appointed and friendly Clubhouse & Halfway House, with excellent food and beverage. Our opening times vary throughout the year, so if you require catering before or after your round, or wish to check opening times, please contact SGT.
Trolleys and Buggies
Both push and a limited number the latest GPS electric trolleys (£20 hire fee) are available to hire from the Club Professional, it is recommended that electric trolleys are reserved in advance with SGT. Please do not take trolleys on the tee, greens or green surrounds.
Buggies are available for hire at £40.00 per round and should be reserved in advance with SGT.
Caddies
Experienced, local caddies are available at a cost of £60 plus tip (paid directly to the caddy on the day). All caddies need to be pre-booked via SGT.
Practice Ground
Balls are available on the practice ground – no token is required. Please aim away from the right-hand side boundary fence. Please use your own balls on the chipping area.

Etiquette
For the enjoyment of all, rounds of golf are expected to be completed in under 4 hours. Speed of play can be improved by: –
▪ Playing ‘ready’ golf.
▪ Placing your bag/trolley on the same side of the green, as you will leave it for the next tee.
▪ Marking your scorecard whilst waiting to take your next tee shot and not on the green after putting out.
▪ Walking to your own ball and be ready to play your next shot as soon as the green is clear and it is your turn to play.
▪ Allowing the match following to play through if your match fails to keep its place on the course and loses more than one hole on the players in front.
▪ Always repairing pitch marks, replacing divots and raking bunkers.
▪ Mobile phones – we all appreciate that mobile phones are silent.
Dress Rules – Course
We expect members, their guests and visitors to always be smartly attired both on and off the course.
On the Course – Please wear recognised golf attire.
Golf shoes must be worn – metal & soft spikes are allowed on the course however only clean, soft spikes are allowed in the Clubhouse.
Hats and waterproof clothing are not allowed in the bars or dining areas. Waterproofs are permitted in the 19th & 20th lounges.
Examples of inappropriate clothing – blue denim garments, tracksuits, cargo pants, casual t-shirts, football type clothing, gym wear, flip flops, soiled, worn or ripped clothing will not be allowed.
Club staff have been asked to draw the Dress Code rules to the attention of those who are unsuitably dressed; anyone not conforming may be asked to change or leave.
Do not vent your frustration at the individual delivering the message if you are asked to adjust your attire.
General Information
No liability can be accepted for any article left unattended on the premises, or in the car park. Visitors are advised to take all reasonable precautions, i.e., locking clubs in cars after play, especially if dining, rather than leave them outside or in the locker room. Reception facilities and private rooms are available provided advance notice is given.
Hillside has hosted many amateur and professional tournaments in its illustrious history, including the British Masters presented by Tommy Fleetwood in 2019, the DP World Tour Cazoo Classic in 2022.
The R&A have been a regular visitor to the Links with The Amateur and Ladies Amateur Championships being staged here, as well as Final Qualifying for The Open on numerous occasions. In 2023, the 128th Amateur Championship returned to Hillside for the 3rd time.
